(Q sent this today, looks chilly!)
Scripture for the week.... 2 kings 6:16-17(it will make you shiver)
Hello my loved ones,
I am going to start todays email off with a song. This song was written by Elder Makini Manu while we were in the MTC, and it truly has shaped the way i look at my mission. So as you read the lyrics, think of Elder A. Zilles in Arizona, Elder Birky in argentina, and me here, or any other missionaries you want to think about. Dont cry too much.
I know you as my brother
though ive never seen your face
ive traveled many miles to reach
this unfamiliar place
my home is in my suitcase
and my life is what i preach
its you my unknown brother
ive come so far to teach.
Chorus:
With love
i offer all i have
and freely do i give
the treasures money can not buy
with love i offer all i have and freely do i give
the gospel here and live....
Verse 2:
the simple truths of jesus are what i have to share
repentance faith baptism is
the message that i bare
when i come upon your door step
please listen to what i say,
remember him and let me in
and turn me not away
Wow powerful isnt it? yeah i just love it so i thought i would share it with all of you.
This week was pretty good, and very very cold, but o well.
The best days were thurdsday and friday. Thursday we taught a couple named john and marry, they were reffered to us by a friend of theirs who lives in salt lake. They are very neat, in about their mid 50s but have only been married about 7 years. They are both very musical and have a recording studio in their house, we got to play around with that some while we were there so that was neat. We will be teaching them this thursday as well as having dinner with them. The only sad part about them is that in 3 weeks when the sisters get here they wont be in our area anymore. We told john and marry that and they said "well ok then you have 3 weeks to convert us". we were talking about life after our missions and they told me they could see me being a model, and joked that that was the reason they even let us in the door. But they are very awesome neat couple.
Friday we found a new investigator named Bob, he reads two pages out of the bible everday, but always feels like parts of it just dont connect, so we taught hm about the book of mormon and he promised us he will read it. But he is on the road for the next few weeks with work so we wont see him for a while.
Friday night we had a dinner appointment with a less active older couple, whom we have eaten with every friday since i have been here. We had invited them to start reading in the book of mormon again and they actually did it. So friday we read chapter four of 1 nephi which is of course about nephi killing laban. We only read that because that is where they were at in their reading, and i was really worried how we were going to tie that chapter into the lesson we had planned for them. But i tell you now that the spirit is the most amazing thing ever, we got done reading and the words rolled out of my mouth and they were not my words. as i testified to them the importance of them coming back to church, tears filled my eyes. The spirit was so strong. Both brother and sister Gorham started to cry, and i just cant express the amazing feeling that was in that house that night,, i loved it so much.
I am so excited to read all about stake conference, all day yesterday i couldnt stop thinking about the fact that yall were sitting in the same room as my hero and idol elder holland. Maybe i will get lucky and that is who will come to zone conference in a few weeks.
Sounds like the snow is pretty intense back home, we havent gotten any here, its just been cold. Im glad there are good young men like those three to help you guys out. Taylor really is a good one, he is a keeper for sure, give him my love.
That is too bad about the aggies and also ws, its cause they dont have their super fan im telling ya.
I will have to look for that dairy in st. J. we spend alot of time over ther because it is just ten miles from us. We are out of miles, so we have been walking alot, so i sure am glad i have such nice snow boots.
We finally found keith, we ran into him at the library, he had just got back from the doctor, and he may possibly have serosis of the liver, so we are praying he doesnt. We are supposed to meet with him tonight, but we will see if he actually follows through.
We didnt teach logan this week, becasue i didnt show up to mutual, and didt show up to church either, so that is frustrating.
Alan couldnt have us this week, because he got to have his kids almost everyday, so we were happy for him for that. Have an appointment with him for tuesday.
It will be super awesome when the sisters get here in three weeks. there is going to be alot of area changes happening in our mission because of the amount of missionaries coming in. by the end of the year every ward in our mission will have two sets of missionaries! The work is hastening and it is o so exciting to get to be a part of it at this time.
I got grandmas letter and wrote her back last monday, so she should be getting that soon. I also wrote lou, and one to you and dad, so i hope you get those soon. i am gonna try to put a few pics on here today so i hope they work. I better be getting some pictures from you guys soon, i need to see my dogs and cows.
Love you all so very much. Talk soon.
Remember "God does not expect greatness, he only expects faith"
Love, Elder Z
(At least we know he's not starving...)
(The first pic we have of Elder Chen, looks like a keeper...haha)
